CHAPTER 11 - "WORLDS APART"

There was complete quiet when Eamm rose to speak. Apparently Daley's words had both intimidated them and roused their curiosity. Knowing they had no alternative but to remain, they sat like stoics ready to hear the worst, even though many doubted the truth of what they had heard.

"Thank you for being here," Eamm began. "We know how difficult it is for you to believe what you're hearing. On my planet, Marrias, I am one of the elected leaders of our civilization. We have what you might consider a democracy, but no individual has power as you define it here. Instead, leadership comes with the duty of service to the greater community. ..We are a God fearing people. We marry one partner for life. Our life span is approximately 200 years. We have conquered all the illnesses that were once prevalent in our land, many similar to your own..."

"Although from time to time we have brought human beings from Earth to Marrias (light years away in the farthest reaches of our Galaxy), our purpose was to develop a friendship with your species; so that at some later date, we could have friends that might help us facilitate a peaceful exchange between our two worlds….those humans who have visited our planet have been given our natural medications that have immunized them against all human illnesses. If the Cloud weren't coming here these humans would have lived healthy lives to 100 or more..."

"The Cloud is larger than your planet. Its immensity cannot be seen through any telescope, yours or ours. When it enters your solar system, your astronomers will be able to identify it as a mass of darkness…The ominous cloud mass will grow larger and larger as it comes closer to Earth. Once your astronomers identify it, we will have approximately one month before it reaches Earth's stratosphere….it will cover the Earth two weeks later. Before that time comes we hope you will accept on faith what we tell you and work with us to save the human species (from extinction.)...."

"What we know for certain is that as the Cloud descends, it will slowly suffocate every living thing. No air breathing creature will remain alive after it devastates the Earth."

PANIC BROKE OUT ON THE FLOOR.
